I captured this photograph while camping in Big Sur and was drawn to the natural division of the scene into thirds: the mountains, the flock in motion, and the lone straggler trailing behind. The birds remain crisp against the smooth sky, while the textured rock face grounds the composition through contrast. The viewer’s eye follows the movement of the flock as they sweep across the frame, creating a subtle sense of narrative. Light fog softens the background and adds depth, and adjusting the red curve to bring out more green helped define the ridge line for a richer, more dimensional final image.
